How To View Animated GIFs In The Photos App On iOS 10 iPhone

For years many iOS users have been requesting Apple to add the ability to view animated GIFs in the Photos App on iPhone. When you save a GIF to your iPhone, it appears as a still image in the Photos app because a single frame of that animated GIF is displayed only.

The popularity of GIF is on the rise and Apple has taken this opportunity to finally bring support for animated GIFs to iOS 11. GIFs will now animate in the Photos app rather than appearing as a still image. Of course this is a great news for users who are planning to upgrade to iOS 11, but what should jailbreakers do in this case. If you’re one such user, and don't want to lose your jailbreak then you will be glad to hear that a new jailbreak tweak dubbed as GIFRoll will bring the functionality to view animated GIFs in the Photos App on iPhone in iOS 10.

How To View Animated GIFs In The Photos App On iOS Device

As the name implies, GIFRoll tweak brings support for animated GIFs to the Photos app in iOS 10. All you have to do to get it is to install GIFRoll tweak on your jailbroken device. It is available as a free package in Cydia’s ModMyi repo. Once you install the tweak, save any GIF to the Photos app and proceed with opening it. You’ll notice that the GIF starts to animate rather than appearing as a still image. The tweak doesn’t require any additional configuration.

If you don’t know how to save GIFs, it is quite easy. Go to a website from where you can download GIFs, such as giphy.com. Open a GIF that you want to save, then tap and hold on it. From the menu that appears, pick ‘Save Image’. Now navigate to the Photos app and you should see the GIF saved in the Camera Roll album.

GIFRoll tweak supports both iOS 9 as well as iOS 10, so a majority of jailbreak users should be able to install and use this tweak without any issues.
