iOS 9.3 Beta 4 Fixes ‘January 1, 1970’ Bug On iPhone

If your friends played a bad joke with you and you have faced with Error 53 issue on your iPhone then iOS 9.3 beta 4 fixes ‘January 1, 1970’ bug. According to recent reports many angry iDevices users were complaining that their 64-bit-equipped iPhones or iPads running iOS 9.2.1 - 9 firmware versions were bricked just by setting a particular date. It has happed in the middle of February.

For the folks that are using the fourth beta of iOS 9.3, which was released earlier this week, a discovery was made that shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise. This beta didn't brought any essential new features or improvements, but this bug fix will really help many iPhone 6s owners affected by error 53 issue.

The bug itself was simple enough: After the iOS 9.2 iPhone or iPad is set to January 1, 1970 date, restarting it will result in a bricked device. A trip to the Apple Store is the only way that will fix this creepy issue. Some affected users have claimed that they’ve been able to get to the DFU screen, and when the iPhone is plugged into their PC iTunes even recognizes it, but it won’t get past the initial boot screen.

With the new software, which is still in its pre-release stage, the date can’t be set beyond December 31, 2000, at 7:00 PM ET. For all intents and purposes, that removes the bug altogether, by effectively ejecting the method in which it could be initiated on the device and brick it.

More than that, though, the newest beta actually fixes the bricked devices that were stuck in a boot loop after inputting the date. Those who have tried were successful in restoring their device with the fourth beta. This iOS beta fix is much better than the previous method: removing the battery, which, for most users, meant a trip to an Apple Store for a restore that way. Now when iOS 9.3 beta 4 fixes ‘January 1, 1970’ bug, a broader rollout is right around the corner.

How To Setup iOS 7 App Switcher In iOS 9

Step 1. In order to use AppSwitcher7 tweak on your iOS 9 device it must be jailbroken first.

So those folks who miss the simplicity of the iOS 7 App Switcher or have an older iPhone model , AppSwitcher7 is a great jailbreak tweak to have on your jailbroken device.

So if you are 3D Touch fan and jailbreaker then follow steps below on how to install and use this new Cydia tweak.

Download iOS 9.2.1 iPhone Error 53 Fix

Apple has pushed the small firmware update to fix iOS 9.2.1 iPhone Error 53 that affected multiple devices. An updated version of iOS 9.2.1 (build 13D20) was released to fix the issue that could ‘brick’ a user’s iPhones if it received a third-party Touch ID sensor replacement instead of one of Apple’s own replacements. iOS 9.2.1 has been the latest software version for iDevices that was launched a month ago and was carrying 13D15 build number. And now Apple released it updated version with the fix option.

According to recent reports the issue was affecting such iDevice as iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. So if you were stuck with a bricked iPhone then the only way to fix the issue is to install iOS 9.2.1 build 13D20.

How To Fix Error 53 On iOS 9.2.1 iPhone

Since the update isn’t available as an OTA update, you will have to download the firmware manually to install it through iTunes. Before proceeding make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on your device. Click on iTunes in the menu bar and then click on “Check for updates.”

Download iOS 9.2.1 build 13D20 IPSW file using the direct links below:

iOS 9.2.1 (iPhone 4S): iPhone4,1_9.2.1_13D15_Restore.ipsw
iOS 9.2.1 (iPhone 5 GSM): iPhone5,1_9.2.1_13D15_Restore.ipsw
iOS 9.2.1 (iPhone 5 GSM+CDMA): iPhone5,2_9.2.1_13D15_Restore.ipsw
iOS 9.2.1 (iPhone 5s GSM): iPhone6,1_9.2.1_13D15_Restore.ipsw
iOS 9.2.1 (iPhone 5s GSM+CDMA): iPhone6,2_9.2.1_13D15_Restore.ipsw

iOS 9.2.1 Build 13D20 (iPhone 6): iPhone7,2_9.2.1_13D20_Restore.ipsw
iOS 9.2.1 Build 13D20 (iPhone 6s): iPhone8,1_9.2.1_13D20_Restore.ipsw
iOS 9.2.1 Build 13D20 (iPhone 6s Plus): iPhone8,2_9.2.1_13D20_Restore.ipsw

After you’ve downloaded the appropriate file, you can launch iTunes and prepare to restore to the iOS 9.2.1 build 13D20 release. After the restore is complete, you should be able to turn and start to use your iOS 9.2 device again.

Please note that a restore will wipe your device of its contents, so you should restore from an iCloud or iTunes backup after the restore to bring back all your apps and settings you had before. The work is done successfully and it should fix iOS 9.2.1 iPhone Error 53.

After installing iOS 9.2.1 build 13D20, you will have to bring your iPhone to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Repair center to have the Home button replaced by a legitimate technician. This is the only method you can ever use Touch ID on your device again if you had a third-party Touch ID sensor installed on it currently.

Apple now says the Error 53 bricking issue was meant to be a factory test and was never intended to affect customers.

Step 1. First navigate to Cydia and download Meteor for $1.99. Once done install it.

Step 2. Once the Meteor is installed, you can go to the stock Settings app to find tweak's preference panel. Inside the tweak’s preferences, you’ll find the obligatory kill switch, along with several customization options for changing the look of the tweak on both the Weather app icon, and in the status bar.

Step 3. Once you have set everything due to your taste, Meteor’s settings requires a respring of your device for changes to take place.

Step 4. However, it’s possible to change the weather readout on both the status bar and the Weather app icon, simply by rearranging the order of the Weather app’s cards. Once you place a card at the beginning, that particular location will be the location used to output Meteor’s pertinent information.

There are some other tweaks that bring some costumization to Weather icon but Meteor is interesting tweak that brings its own unique feature-set to the table. Adding current temperature to Weather app icon on iOS 9 iPhone Meteor provides users with good-looking and accurate weather information. I think it is handy tweak to have in your collection.

How To Install Theming Platform To Animate iOS 9 Phone App Icons

If you are looking for new theming platform to animate iOS 9 Phone app icons then you should first jailbreak your device. All our iPhone Home screen icons look still and dull. But with liberated iPhone you will be able to grab new jailbreak tweak that keeps the stock look of your device's your Home screen, but adds a touch of animation to it at the same time.

Called Fingal, this is a new form of theming platform for jailbroken iOS devices that allows users to try a different themes for animating the app icons. Also any Cydia developers can create their own themes that will be used as an add-on in Fingal.

How To Animate iOS 9 Phone App Icons

Step 1. Navigate to Cydia from your jailbroken iOS 9 device and download Fingal for free of charge.

Step 2. Once installed, Fingal adds a preferences pane to the Settings app where you can pick and choose the theme(s) that you want to enable.

Step 3. Fingal preferences pane is divided into two sections: Enabled Themes and Disable Themes.

Step 4. The “Basic Example Theme” is installed by default on any device that you install Fingal on, and it’s a good way to see how your device will perform with animated app icons. This theme animates only four of the stock iOS app icons including Messages, Reminders, Settings and Safari.

Step 5.To enable it, click and hold on the grabber next to the theme and drag it to the Enabled Themes section.

Step 6. Then press the respring button located in the top right corner of the pane to respring your iPhone and apply the newly selected theme.

As it was mentioned above you can download and install third-party themes from Cydia that are made for Fingal and apply them to your iOS 9 iPhone. Since the tweak was recently uploaded on Cydia, there’s a limited amount of themes available. One interesting theme is ShakeIt Plus that is recommended by the developer.

You can install this theme from the ZodTTD repo in Cydia. Once installed, you can move back to the Settings app and visit Fingal preferences pane, there you’ll see new themes available for different iOS app icons. You can enable other themes and perform a respring for the new animations to take effect.

Fingal is really great theming platform to animate iOS 9 Phone app icons. The animations of the individual app icons on the Home screen are very smooth and fluid. So if you are interested in taking this tweak for a spin follow our guide how to setup it correctly.

iOS 9.2.1 Jailbreak Release Date Review

For those folks who are eagerly waiting for iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak release date we have some positive news. As you may know with iOS 9.1 firmware version public release Apple has patched several exploits that Pangu used to develop its jailbreak for iOS 9 – 9.0.2 devices. Unfortunately, since that time there has been no important news from Pangu team about the progress of development of a new jailbreak solution for iOS 9.1 and above. As a result of the slowness in the jailbreak scene, many users are either stuck without a jailbreak or are living without the latest features such as Night Shift mode, welcomed changes to Notes, Health, News and CarPlay seeded with recently released iOS updates.

Few weeks ago hacker Luca Todesco revealed that he successfully jailbroke 9.2.1 and 9.3 beta 1 version. And now this hacker has posted a new video demonstrating successfully jailbroken iPhone 6 running iOS 9.2 public release update installed.

As you can see from the video above, to prove his jailbreak the hacker performs different options possible only on a jailbroken iPhone, including launching Cydia to show his iOS version. Although the untethered jailbreak is only demonstrated on iOS 9.2 in the video, but the hacker persuades that his tool will also work on iOS 9.2.1 and 9.3 beta versions.

Luca Todesco might not be a well known hacker to some users but as per to one source Apple company has recently credited him for security vulnerabilities that were fixed in iOS 9.2 version. While the hacker still doesn’t plan to release it, it’s still good to see latest versions of iOS being vulnerable to jailbreakable exploits.

Although the iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak release date stays for us unknown. But the video was released for demonstration purposes to raise hope that a jailbreak is possible. And what we can do is to wait till a larger jailbreak team actually go through with releasing a public jailbreak tool for iOS 9.1 - 9.3 beta. As liberating iOS 9.3 beta appears to be possible, it would make more sense for any jailbreak team to wait for the iOS 9.3 public release before launching any new jailbreak solution.

Step 4. There are 2 ways to invoke TimeAlarm tweak. You can launch it directly from the Lock screen of your device. For the former, you can double click the clock on the Lock screen to view a popup that shows a list of the alarms that have already been created. You can toggle on or off each of them or swipe an individual alarm to the left to edit or clear it.

Step 5.You can also use an Activator gesture. In this way, you can view the tweak’s interface from anywhere on your iOS 9 device by simply performing an Activator gesture.

How To Play Any Spotify Track For Alarm On iOS 9 iPhone

If you want to play any Spotify track for alarm on iOS 9 then you should first liberate your device using Pangu jailbreak tool. Those with jailbroken iDevice can install new jailbreak tweak called SpotAlarm that brings this functionality to your smartphone.

The big advantage for Spotify users is that with SpotAlarm tweak installed they will be able to set any one song from Spotify to play when the alarm goes off at any time of the day when you set it.

Before you proceed note that if your device was updated to any of recent public firmware releases such as iOS 9.2 or 9.2.1 you won't be able to use SpotAlarm tweak because there is no jailbreak available for these platforms as of yet.

How To Play Any Spotify Track For Alarm In iOS 9

Step1: Navigate to Cydia’s BigBoss repository and grab SpotAlarm for free of cost.

Step2: Once installed, the tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings app. There you can enable or disable SpotAlarm on demand. Also you can paste in the link to the Spotify song that you want to play when any of your alarms go off.

Step 3 : Now launch the Spotify app and find a song you want to use for alarms. Once selected, click on it to play it and launch the “Now Playing” interface.

Step 4 : Then, click on the ellipsis button “…” and you will see menu from there.

Step 5: Next, click on the “Share” button.

Step 6: In the new menu that appears, click on the “Copy Song Link” button to add the link to the song to your clipboard.

Step 7: Then paste that song link in the preferences pane in Settings.

Disadvantages:
  • SpotAlarm require a iOS 9 device which isn’t passcode or Touch ID protected so, it can play the song whilst device is locked.
  • You can only select one track to set as alarm and you can set more than one track.
  • After you dismiss the alarm, the song will still play unless you close it yourself.
So if want to play any Spotify track for alarm on iOS 9 iPhone you should take SpotAlarm tweak for a spin. Since it is free and you don't pay attention on its disadvantages it is great functionality to have on your jailbroken device.
