How to Upgrade to iOS 8: Direct Download Links for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch

iOS 8 download for iPhone 5 / 5S / 4S / 5c is available for developers who are participating in Apple Dev program. They can download iOS 8 for free and install it on any of the mentioned iPhone to test the new firmware on future applications and games.

The latest firmware was introduced during WWDC 2014 yesterday. It offers some enhancements and new options, including additional widgets for Notification Center, interactive notifications etc.

If you decide to install iOS 8 beta 1 get prepared for all the bugs and problems it has. It is impossible to create a new firmware version without bugs. Sadly, ordinary users cannot update to this beta as it is available to devs only.

You need to access your iOS Dev Center account in order to download iOS 8 on your gadget using the links below.

iPod Touch

The latest firmware supports only one iPod touch so download iOS 8 for 5-gen device here.

iPhone

iOS 8 release is available to different smartphone models, including the 5S [you can download the firmware for models A1453, A1533 and models A1457, A1518, A1528, A1530], 5c [grab your version for A1456, A1532 or A1507, A1516, A1526, A1529], 4s or 5 [two models: A1428 and A1429].

iPad

You can also update to iOS 8 beta 1 on your tablet: iPad Air users can download the new firmware for models A1474, A1475 and A1476, iPad mini owners should select one of these versions A1489, A1490, A1491, A1432, A1454 and A1455.

How to Upgrade to iOS 8 Instruction

Once you have downloaded your file, extract .ipsw file from the zip one.

Step 1. Launch iTunes.

Step 2. Connect your iDevice to your computer [Mac or Windows].

Step 3. Choose your model from iTunes menu.

Step 4. Go to the Summary tab.

Step 5. On Mac you need to hold down the Option, on Windows you should hold down the Shift key – while clicking the option called Update iPhone…

Step 6. Select your .ipsw and Open it.

Step 7. Confirm that you wish to update to iOS 8 by selecting Ok option.

Step 8. The firmware will begin installation process. Your device will reboot and you will have to Slide to upgrade.

Step 9. The iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will reboot once again greeting you with Hello message. You have to Slide to setup and Continue.

Step 10. There will be directions what to do next in order to setup the gadget. Follow them.

Step 11. You are now running iOS 8 on your device.
